Steph Jansen Derbyshire, United Kingdom
My felt 'paintings' are intricate, dynamic works created from layers of fibres, threads, and fabrics. Drawing inspiration from human presence in the landscape, my art also reflects a deep fascination with the tactile richness of my materials. My landscapes explore striking contrasts, weaving vivid bursts of colour and form with subtle, earthy tones and delicate details.
I work in series, going out sketching and photographing between bouts in my studio. My work is laid up flat on a table, several pieces at a time, building layers of wool, silks and other natural fibres, which are then wet felted to create the fabric of each piece.
I occasionally run small workshops either introducing wet felting to complete beginners, or explaining the techniques I use in my work to felters who wish to develop their skills.
I am a member of the Peak District Artisans.
