My work explores areas between figuration and abstraction. The content is derived from seeing the natural world and the form interpreted using elements of colour, shape, and space. The shifting light on the landscape throughout the seasons are a pivotal part of that process. A sense of place and the feelings evoked are imbued in the paintings. My paintings are a response to light that invite the viewer to step into an illusory sensation of depth. The physical and haptic activities of applying paint and mark making are important parts of his practice which use a variety of tools and methods to build and create a surface of paint. After the first marks are made the canvases take on a life of there own becoming both figurative and abstract removing traces of reality.
