Using Glue East Sussex, United Kingdom
Sadly, my real name isn't Using Glue, that's a trade name sort of thing to reflect the fact that I use a lot of glue in my work. My real name is Shane O'Leary. In previous incarnations I have dug ditches, marketed pornography and written increasingly deranged reviews of increasingly bland records before finally growing up and becoming an artist. Continued below...
I built a studio with materials reclaimed from skips, bonfires and demolition sites and made 'art' with paint, books, plywood and magazines donated by friends, family and neighbours.
My work is informed by the things that interest, delight and annoy me, rather than what is regarded as commercial or accessible, there's more than enough of that already.
Being a Hastings 'local' I have no work that depicts beaches, waves, fish, boats or seagulls. Unless you count the Seahorse stuff, or the one with a machine gun toting cat going after fish, as they famously don't.
The modern expression for the medium I work in is mixed media, but I prefer collage because the altering, re-jigging and general messing with images and situations is what I do.
Generally, I use either A3 or A2 sized marine plywood as the base for my works and sell both originals and prints.
I have no interest in explaining or defining my work, although I'm always pleased to talk about process and technique.
My work is currently on display in Paimpol, France and both Rye and Hastings in East Sussex.
