Yan Cheng Glamorgan, United Kingdom
Cheng Yan is a UK-based artist and photographer whose work draws on nature, wildlife, and landscape. Influenced by traditional eastern painting and contemporary practice, he works across painting, photography, and printmaking, creating refined, expressive works that explore harmony, detail, and a sense of place.
My practice is rooted in observation of nature, landscape, and wildlife, drawing inspiration from traditional Eastern painting while engaging with contemporary visual approaches. I work across painting, photography, and printmaking. Through travel, field observation, and studio work, I explore themes of stillness, rhythm, and the relationship between humans and the natural world. My paintings emphasise line, atmosphere, and controlled use of colour, while my photographic work focuses on light, timing, and composition. I am particularly interested in how traditional aesthetics can be reinterpreted through modern materials and techniques.
My work is presented through exhibitions, art fairs, and limited-edition prints, aiming to create a quiet but immersive visual experience that invites close looking and reflection.
