Yewbowart (Yvonne Cavens) is a Scottish artist based in Kelso. Working exclusively in A5 sketchbooks, her practice is private, sustainable, and process-led. Through abstraction and restraint, she explores floral forms, landscape, and emotional presence. The sketchbook is the final site of the work. Art is the voice of her soul

I work exclusively in A5 sketchbooks as a conscious shift away from large-scale production and public-facing immediacy. This practice offers privacy, sustainability, and the freedom to explore themes and techniques with seriousness and care.

Each sketchbook functions as a complete, self-contained body of work. Pages are developed sequentially, beginning with acts of clearing and preparation, allowing floral, animals, abstract forms to emerge through abstraction, restraint, and repetition rather than illustration.

The sketchbook is not a preparatory space but the final site of the work. Scale is intimate, materials are considered, and process is prioritised over spectacle. This approach supports a slower, more reflective engagement with nature, growth, and the human interior.

New works are developed monthly. Selected pages may be shared publicly after completion, while the sketchbooks themselves remain private records of a sustained artistic inquiry.
