My practice is muti-disciplinary but a unifying starting point for most of my work is print or collage. I am an artist and educator interested in the social applications of art. Ritual, play, wonder, performance, perceptions of reality and imagined narratives are all important themes within my practice.
Throughout my MA I explored the notion of ‘ritualising’ my practice. This led me to question how ritual might influence creative activity: does ritualising an action alter one’s perception of it? What effects can creative rituals have on individuals and groups? Concepts closely connected to ritual such as play, wonder, performance, perceptions of reality and imagined narratives, continue to inform my work. While I am interested in developing large-scale interactive artworks that offer audiences a sense of escapism or agency within the work, my current practice is focused primarily on printmaking on a more intimate scale. These smaller works allow me to explore ideas through slow, repetitive and process-led making. Aesthetically, my work often features intricate detail, layered compositions and repetitive mark-making, and is typically the result of labour-intensive or slow processes. Even the digital work I produce retains traces of the handmade methods that underpin my practice.
