Caro Clarke London, United Kingdom
  Back to profiles

Caro Clarke is a London based Sculptor exploring colour, light & structure through paper and metal. Her work reflects on existence, often drawing inspiration from patterns in nature and meteorology as well as architecture and urban living.

Using paper as a prototyping medium, I try to explore structures and patterns that I am inspired by on a daily basis through my walks, as well as research into nature and its happenance. I research and explore how far I can go with paper making, screenprinting, different types of inks and how these different approaches affects the paper and of course the final outcome.

My multicultural background has always drawn me to vibrant colours so my colour choices usually reflect this. Fluorescent colours are the most natural colours on earth and they occur in so many places in nature. This really excites and inspires me.

I work from my studio in East London most days when it comes to smaller pieces.

I am also currently doing an ongoing residency and apprenticeship with Sculptor Julian Wild at his school Cement art in Newhaven, where I am developing my welding skills using stainless steel and other more robust materials. My aim is to start producing my pieces on a larger scale in order to leave a more lasting legacy.
