Carol Burns Wiltshire, United Kingdom
I’m an award-winning abstract artist drawn to the emotional and narrative layers that shape who we are. My work begins with a concept or feeling and evolves through intuitive mark-making, paint, and collage. I explore how storytelling—both internal and shared—helps us make sense of ourselves and the world around us.
My practice centres on emotionally charged, non-representational abstract painting. Each piece begins with a concept or feeling and unfolds through intuitive layers of paint, mark-making, and collage—balancing control with spontaneity, precision with accident. The result is rich, textured work that invites personal interpretation and reflection.
I often incorporate recycled materials and found objects, adding depth, contrast, and a sense of history. This approach reflects both my environmental concerns and my belief in the power of art to hold memory and meaning.
Whether responding to global concerns or intimate stories, my work creates space for thought, connection, and moments of quiet hope.
My work has been widely exhibited across the UK and internationally, including the Royal Cambrian Academy of Art, Royal West of England Academy of Art, The Mall Galleries in London, and the Venice Biennale. I have been featured in 'Celebrating Women in Art' magazine and the book '101 Contemporary Artists and More'. I’m a working artist with the Visual Artists Association and part of the Artist Network Initiative at the Royal West of England Academy.
