Chloë Rogers London, United Kingdom
I am a ceramicist based in SE London making wheel-thrown functional ceramics. I started pottery in 2017 with evening classes, and since then have built my practice as a member of a co-operative ceramics studio alongside my role as a social worker, gradually devoting more and more time to pottery.
I specialise in wheel-thrown tableware inspired by the British studio pottery tradition and particularly love making large statement platters and bowls. I love to use ceramics as a canvas for decoration with individual brushstrokes, exploring textile-inspired patterns using glaze and oxides that speak to and echo the crafts of dyeing, weaving and stitching, and bring colour and movement to the table and home. I work with a toasted stoneware clay that adds depth to my pieces with an iron-rich speckle and its warm, unglazed surfaces. With simple, elegant forms and earthy tones, I strive to make good, beautiful pottery to be held, used and enjoyed.
