E.A Tofte Ireland
As a visual artist and storyteller, I work across disciplines—incorporating found objects, both natural and manmade, to explore vulnerability and the impermanence of our interconnected world. I am drawn to stories embedded in materials and processes, and how they reflect and shape the natural environment. Collaborating with nature allows me to examine subtle social and cultural shifts.
“Everything is already here; we are just learning to notice it.” by E.A. Tofte.
Eleanora Alis Tofte (E.A.Tofte) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work bridges fine art and ecology.
Based between Estonia, Ireland and the Cayman Islands, her work explores changing terrains questioning what shapes interconnected landscapes and how they are perceived. She is interested in the processes of removal and distribution, investigating how natural forces interact with the man-made and how the value of absence can contribute to long term transformation in which minimal interference and manipulation can help the material itself to tell its story.
Her practice stretches from large-scale installations to smaller curiosities, often taking the form of sculpture, ritual, exchange or a gesture embodying care, vulnerability and attentiveness.
Her work is often dependent on soil, water, weather and living relationships that surround it. Local communities contribute to the dialogue and sustainability of the work, allowing it to remain open-ended and unfinished.
Her large-scale ongoing installation Transient in a deep forest in Estonia, is a site of gathering and witnessing. Left to weather through the seasons, its ephemeral form remains in constant change, understood through its connection to the land.
Removing waste and restoring the natural environment becomes a ritual. By learning from the materials already present, she reveals histories and connections, and the idea of resilience as something we create together.
