I am an interdisciplinary artist, writer, and educator.

Emma Bolland is an interdisciplinary artist and writer currently focussed on sculpture, drawing, installation, and writing, to explore visual abstraction as a speculative, sci-fi method. Drawing on diverse histories such as those of Constructivism, the visual practices of Theosophy, science fiction, and astronomy, they often use solid and ground minerals and metal ores such as tourmaline, malachite, magnetite haematite, iron and copper—materials that also suggest magical and metaphysical properties. Recent activities in include a solo project at The Art House UK (2025) and commissioned work for Another Way of Seeing (2025) curated by Gill Crawshaw and hosted by Leeds Art Gallery. They were the 2025 Testing Ground artist in residence at @yartsapace . Their writing has been published widely, and with @rachel_artsmith they co-edit the interdisciplinary imprint *intergraphia*. Projects for 2025 include a three-person residency at Wath Hall ( details tba); Designs for Spaceships, a solo exhibition of works on paper at The Reception Gallery at Bloc Projects, and Glitch Semaphore, a sculpture-as-performance For Situation Leeds: a Festival of Art in the Public Realm.
