I am a contemporary painter based in Carshalton. I draw my inspiration from my surroundings, emotions and my travels. I am mostly self-taught but recently completed a foundation in Art & Design course at West Dean College. Drawing and painting has always been my way of communicating when words felt insufficient - a sensibility that continues to shape my artistic voice.
My practice is rooted in intuitive exploration, allowing the materials to guide the process and shape the outcome. My search for emotional resonance comes through exploring the spectrum between abstraction and representation and investigating the subtle relationships between visual elements and human experience. This results in often semi-abstract works that evoke personal memories and landscapes or capture an emotion within a pose. I am currently focussing on building a body of work that examines how the absence of facial features reshape our perception of others – questioning whether we privilege facial expression over bodily language when forming judgements about a person. What remains legible about a person when that primary site of recognition is withheld. It also seeks to suspend a single moment, a single pose, positioning the viewer as a voyeur who is present, yet unseen. It aims to shock, makes the viewer uncomfortable, perplex.
