Kate Anderson
  Back to profiles

I was born in London. I work from my studio in S-W Scotland to produce mostly Modern Mosaic and Mixed media pieces. I have a background in Painting and Sculpture, holding a First Class Honours Dip. A. D. and Post-Graduate Commonwealth Award for Sculpture to India. I formed Kate Anderson Mosaics in 2002, and am a professional member of the British Association for Modern Mosaic.

I work to produce 2-D and 3-D work for commission, sale and exhibition. I often incorporate the traditional techniques and materials of Modern Mosaics with methods from wider disciplines combining painted and moulded features. This especially applies to themed collections for exhibition. I am interested in build-up relief work that adds to a narrative quality, either in screens, wall-hung pieces or sculptural ideas. My interests are in cross-cultural myths that are still relevant today, and the language of universal symbols. I welcome the public to my studio, running both Painting and Mosaic workshops. I have held courses in many colleges and centres in London, Oxfordshire, Cumbria and Scotland over the years. Writing and drawing are often an important part of longer projects, and I have produced Mosaic related articles for various publications. Collaborations with other visual artists have been a pleasure. My work has been shown in India, France, Germany, and America as well as in U.K.
