Donna Cheshire Textile Artist Tyne and Wear, United Kingdom
  Back to profiles

Award winning textile artist based in Newcastle upon Tyne. Donna uses appliqué and free machine embroidery to create textile art inspired by the Northern landscape. She has exhibited at galleries and shows nationally and offers a range of textile workshops and talks. Donna also works in hospital and community arts settings.

I create small and large scale textile pieces inspired by the landscape. I go walking regularly and often record these journeys in my sketchbook. The sketchbook work becomes the start point of my stitched work, supported by reading and research into the natural world. I hand dye the fabrics that I use in my work so that I have the colours that I need to recreate the details from my sketchbooks. The fabrics I use are mostly natural fibres and, where possible, recycled - such as cotton or linen, silk or wool, as these take the dyes best.
