  Back to profiles

Recently been able to work full time as an artist after a life combining other roles in the Arts and Heritage sectors. Trained originally as a potter and now still obsessed with materials and textures. Nature both internal and external is my starting inspiration.

I paint primarily in oil, but combine this with a variety of other media such as collagraphs. I enjoy the process of developing areas as they emerge, rubbing back and building up, scratching into the surface and working with tools beyond the brushes, from palette knives and sponges to drawing implements, creating diversity in my mark-making.

My combination of landscape, figure and mood created what could be seen as a contemporary interpretation of the sublime. I have recently been using pigments collected from the ground where I work outside. Its about capturing what is beneath my feet as well as the seen landscape. These are then processed into paint by using binders. The work is then from the land as well as of the landscape. My studio is in a Victorian cotton mill in the Pennines. OL5 9RR. If you have an idea in mind please contact me through this website.
