Frances Payne North Yorkshire, United Kingdom
Multidisciplinary artist specialising in intricate linocut and paper-based work informed by folklore, ecology and vernacular storytelling. My practice combines traditional hand processes with contemporary visual language, often exploring themes of place, ritual and connection.
I create detailed linocut prints and paper works inspired by folklore, nature, collected histories, and the embedded symbolism of objects and place. My practice is rooted in slow, tactile processes and a love of intricate detail, balance, and storytelling.
Through printmaking, handmade books, and paper-based media, I explore the overlap between art and craft traditions, creating atmospheric, hand-made works, artist book-binding kits, and printed objects for exhibition, collection, and curated events.
Alongside my exhibition practice, I curate The Snail Mail Print Club through which subscribers receive small-edition prints and printed ephemera exploring seasonal themes, storytelling, and tactile connection through post.
