Harriet Ridley Anglesey, United Kingdom
  Back to profiles

Harriet Ridley is a ceramicist based on the Isle of Anglesey, North Wales. Her work is both wheel-thrown and handbuilt, and focuses on balancing expression and artistry with intended use. She exhibits her work at ceramic events across the UK.

I work with high-firing stoneware clays to create functional and decorative ceramics, both on the wheel and by handbuilding. I enjoy exploring subtle glaze-clay interactions and incorporating gentle references to the shoreline and natural textures. I fire my work in both an electric kiln and a wood-fired kiln, and develop glazes for both with the aim of creating objects that are tactile and interesting. Ultimately, I want my work to encourage an intimate connection with its user.

I am currently interested in expressing a sense of life and energy within my ceramic work, and have been exploring this through organic forms, textures, asymmetry, glaze finishes, and the use of light and shadows. Importantly, I have been trying to balance these aesthetic principles with functionality, focusing on comfort and practicality during use.
