Jens Tojen West Yorkshire, United Kingdom
  Back to profiles

Jens Tojen is a multidisciplinary artist working with; fashion costume and clothing, textiles, oil painting, and collage. His work is idea-driven, with decisions on medium based on concept needed to be executed. Text is often incorporated, with meanings left vague. Every interpretation holds equal weight.

Currently situated in central Leeds, Jens' practice explores the relationship between constant urban development and wild natural landscapes. His background working in the textiles industry of West Yorkshire informs this, referencing themes such as abandonment, liminal space, and the repetitive slog of an unfulfilling work environment.

Despite this, there is an appreciation of the mundane throughout his practice, and a surrealist dream of transcending to a more natural state of being. His paintings in particular ask a modern audience, what do You worship? An individualistic world of profit, or the divinity of connection between ourselves and the spaces we occupy?
