Mixed media artist exploring writing as mark making, navigating the relationship between text and image, through the practices of collecting and disrupting language and writing. Based in North Yorkshire.

Communication a way people try to connect with one another, there are a plethora of modes in which humans aim to relate, sympathise, argue and translate to create spaces of connection. Through my practice I am to explore these forms of communication by navigating in between the spoken, written, digital and auditory spaces where language and text is heard.

Using a range of painting, printmaking, drawing and textile techniques to play with the form of language and disrupt its presentation, creating a synthesis of visual and typographic language. Inspired by the practice of Asemic writing, my practice usually starts with writing as drawing 'words in the moment' as a cathartic practice for using a word or phrase over and over again to tease out its form and change it into something new. Transferring this into larger works and incorporating movement while writing/drawing as a key component to fully realise the act of translating environmental stimuli of language to brain to hand to work.

There is a combination of 'collection' of text through a range of sources, literature, music, everyday conversations and own poetry that interlaces and where relevant, provokes ideas of the meaning of combinations of words in context with a range of intersectional social themes.
