Kay Leech Mixed Media Textile Artist Cumbria, United Kingdom
  Back to profiles

Inspired by the Cumbrian landscape where she lives and works, Kay's work is not defined by embroidery or quilting but incorporates a range of materials and processes that create an appropriate response to the subject matter. Although Kay enjoys experimenting with non-traditional materials her work still has a historical grounding with the use of simple hand stitch.

Walking in the Cumbrian landscape is a passion and as I ramble I see that surface beauty that everyone associates with the Lake District. However, my real fascination is the story behind this picturesque landscape. The rocks that formed the hills and the industries that shaped it.

Increasingly I am conscious of the impact that my individual actions have on the environment therefore I try to minimise my use of new material, incorporating recycled materials wherever possible.
