Kirsten Basram Cornwall and Isles of Scilly, United Kingdom
  Back to profiles

Kirsten is an abstract landscape artist working mainly in oils. She is based in her childhood home of Cornwall and her work investigates the spiritual and emotional response to landscape and memory. She exhibits regularly, both solo shows and group exhibitions and works from her garden studio near Redruth.

I make luminous, multi-layered paintings evoking my experience of the Cornish landscape and weather and my own inner emotional and spiritual landscapes. I imagine them acting as portals or abstract icons for the viewer, taking them to a spiritual place of rest. I want my paintings to exist as objects of beauty and intrigue with their multi-layered surfaces full of depth, texture, intriguing marks and rich colour. Landscape as a physical and spiritual reality is the thread that runs through my work and whilst some of my work is more abstract, I return to landscape as it is important to me to communicate the fragility and value of this earth and in particular, Cornwall. I hope my art enables you to enter in to these “thin places” where heaven and earth meet, and you lose yourself in the layers of colour and subtle texture.
