    Living in North East England, I have been painting and printmaking for over 60 years. My main focus in recent years is landscape painting in oils, where I am interested in atmosphere. Sometimes painting en plein air, plants and gardens are another source of inspiration.

    Currently, I am primarily interested in exploring human/nature discourses through a narrative practice that engages with objects (natural and human-made), representation, and employing a range of processes and means of making.     I work with dried flora (flowers, grasses, leaves, twigs, berries and more) weaving, stitching and sticking on tulle fabric within wooden frames to create three-dimensional pieces. I take my inspiration (and my materials) from the natural world around me - what I see from my window, in my garden, on dog walks and beyond.     Carolyn Lefley is a photographer, artist and educator. Her work uses photography and moving image to explore belonging, folklore, deep time and the natural world. She makes work in the rural landscape and in the studio using playful dioramas.     As a studio-based painter I rely on photographic images. These are often those found on social media or then internet. As a gay man I am also interested in exploring the multiplicity of images and ideals we are presented with and redefining the idea of masculinity. My work explores narrative, colour, line, composition, and mark-making to evoke an emotion or develop the narrative within an image.
