Kathleen Hepworth East Yorkshire, United Kingdom
At my studio pottery on the Yorkshire coast I produce a combination of thrown and handbuilt ceramics, using mostly Stoneware clays, coloured slips and glazes.
My pottery is always evolving, with the only constant being a desire to keep exploring new directions. This does tend to mean that each pot has its own distinct character, with a painted surface decoration that is completely unique even though certain themes do recur.
My lifelong obsession with plants and flowers, often finds expression in my work, and most of my pieces are decorated with organic forms: seeds, pods, fronds, flowers and leaves. My designs are often inspired equally by my imagination and by the developing contours of the clay itself, evolving as a natural part of the transformation of lump of mud into finished ceramic.
