Louise Richards is a London-based multidisciplinary visual artist exploring ageing, feminism, domestic labour and material culture through sculpture, photography, print, video and installation.

I am a multidisciplinary artist working across sculpture, digital media, video and print. My practice explores feminist themes, domestic labour and materiality, often reimagining everyday household tools as metaphors for resilience and ritual. By transforming objects such as graters, irons and lemon squeezers, I question how women’s work is seen, valued and remembered.

Through humour, colour and shifts in scale, I blur the boundaries between art and craft, home and spectacle. My work elevates ordinary gestures and materials, foregrounding care, repetition and embodied knowledge as sites of power and creative resistance.

Currently my practice is shifting towards thinking of the ageing body as a domestic object. I am interested in the body as a kind of home: something inhabited, maintained, repaired, cleaned, dressed and increasingly scrutinised as it ages. This extends my earlier investigations into domestic objects, labour and materiality, but turns the focus inwards, asking what happens when I begin to consider myself as an object within the domestic environment.

Through sculpture, photography, print, video and installation, I explore the ageing female body with a mixture of humour, discomfort and curiosity. Wrinkles, skin, hair and bodily changes become materials to be exaggerated, transformed and reimagined. I am interested in the tension between the body as something intimate and lived, and the objectification of the ageing woman within a culture that continually asks her to maintain, improve and conceal herself.
