Laura Vanderslott is a London-based British artist of Sri Lankan and Filipino heritage. A self-taught painter working with oils, her intuitive practice explores psychology, human connection, and our relationship with nature and technology, drawing on organic forms and personal experience to create meditative, reflective works.

My practice is intuitive and process-led, grounded in reflection, experimentation, and the physical act of painting. Working primarily with oil paint, oil pastels, and oil sticks, I allow the work to develop organically, responding to gesture, mark-making, and material resistance. My background in psychology informs both my approach and subject matter, shaping an interest in human connection, emotional states, and the inner experiences that sit beneath conscious awareness.

The work is shaped by personal experience but aims to engage with wider social and existential themes. I explore ideas of connection and disconnection, particularly humanity’s increasing distance from nature and spirituality within a technologically driven world. Natural systems, organic patterning, and forms found in nature act as recurring reference points, allowing me to reflect on interconnectivity across human, biological, and cosmic scales.

Life experiences, including motherhood and major health challenges, have played a significant role in the development of my practice, deepening its expressive and therapeutic qualities. While painting functions as a reflective and healing process, my intention is to create works that resonate beyond the personal, offering viewers space for contemplation, emotional connection, and shared meaning.
