Natalie Jane West Yorkshire, United Kingdom
I’m a queer artist living and working in Colne Valley, West Yorkshire. I typically use oil pastels or wax pastels to create illustrations of natural forms inspired by the landscapes surrounding me.
I experiment with colour as a way of appreciating nature, whilst knowing that I can never fully replicate it’s beauty. I like the freedom of using any colour and expressing what I see through wild mark making. I take a lot of inspiration from Fauvism and how those works make me feel. The passion that comes by impulsively putting down colour is something that I’ve never found through meticulously planning my next mark. My imagination is wild, colourful and vibrant but ever tethered to the source material.

'To me, home is where my piano is. Wherever I go, I long to be home to sit and play. If I’m honest, I love my piano more than I love most things. This piano, albeit scratched, scuffed and out of tune, is the most important thing in the house.... [Read more] |
