Nicola Briggs - Ceramics & Art Greater Manchester, United Kingdom
Nicola Briggs is an Artist & Ceramicist based in Manchester, UK. She completed a BA(Hons) Design: Ceramics Arts Degree from Staffordshire University in 1998 and works from both her ceramics studio and a painting studio at Creative Spin Studios, Leigh. Her work reflects the ever-changing rhythms of the natural world. Inspired by seasonal landscapes and the intricate interplay of weather and light.
My art and ceramics reflect a harmonious fusion of muted colors, drawing inspiration from nature's subtleties. Textural relief details, layered glazes, and deliberate drips evoke the essence of weather and expansive skies. Each piece embodies an emotional response to the landscape, working intuitively as I remove and add layers in response to previous marks.
Handbuilt porcelain vessels and abstract landscapes create a visual symphony that resonates with the beauty of the natural world conveying a sense of memory and calmness and inviting the viewer to bring nature inside.
My work is an exploration of layers capturing light, textures and muted colours inspired by the atmospheric elements of nature and landscapes, evoking an emotional connection of well-being and relaxation to each piece and encouraging you to be present in nature. Working between two studios, a garden ceramics studio and also a painting studio in a nearby Grade 2 listed mill as part of Creative Spin Studios in Spinners Mill,Leigh. I create work ,selling at selected art events, exhibitions, pop-ups and galleries. Work is exhibited and sold from a selection of UK galleries. I will be exhibiting again at Manchester Art Fair in November 2026
