My artistic practice centres on developing a personal visual language that brings together academic tradition and the free interpretation of form. Drawing on recognisable cultural imagery, I seek to transform it, opening up possibilities for new interpretations.
I am interested in how changes in colour, line and proportion shape the character of an image and the way it is perceived. One strand of my practice explores the body and the fluidity of the human figure: its contours are transformed into stylised silhouettes and ornamental motifs while retaining a sense of movement. In other works, my attention shifts to the spaces between forms, where intervals and empty space become significant elements of the composition.
Experimentation with colour and light is an important part of my practice. I explore how their interaction alters the sense of volume, depth and mood within a work. Fluid, intuitively developed contours interact with contrasting planes of colour: colour creates tension and dynamism, while the alternation of lines and forms establishes rhythm. Through these relationships, I explore the boundary between recognisable imagery and abstraction.
I seek to preserve a sense of ambiguity, leaving the image open to viewers’ own associations and interpretations.
