Paul Peppiate North Yorkshire, United Kingdom
A retired graphic designer with a career in film and television, Paul was raised by artist parents who helped shaped his creative foundation. After years working digitally, he has returned to traditional art. His work is driven by a love of observing landscapes—urban, rural, and historical - and the buildings within them, exploring how place, time, and human presence quietly intersect.
I sketch on location whenever possible, working quickly in pencil or fine-liner pen to capture the character, structure, and atmosphere of a place. Back in the studio, I develop these drawings using notes and reference photographs, refining them with detailed pen and ink before introducing colour and texture with marker pen or watercolour.
My work focuses on the landscapes and architecture that shape a sense of place. I have collaborated with several independent businesses in and around my hometown of Skipton, producing greetings cards and prints commissioned specifically for their visitors.
