Robyn Daly
Robyn Daly is an Irish-based fine art photographer whose work seeks to develop a new visual language through which women's lived experience can be expressed. Working with long-exposure performative self-portraiture in abandoned domestic interiors, she creates photographs that move beyond the fixed likeness to express the experience of inhabiting a body.
Her practice draws on photography, performance and feminist philosophy to develop a new visual language through which women's lived experience can be expressed. Through the interplay of light, time and movement, Daly creates the conditions in which body and place enter into relation. Rather than treating photography as a means of recording a static subject, she uses it to express the relation between body and world.
She emigrated to Ireland from South Africa in 2020 and lives in a semi-derelict Irish farmhouse that has become the setting for much of her work. Before turning to fine-art photography in 2025, Daly worked as a photojournalist for Getaway magazine before establishing a commercial photography studio. She holds an MA from Rhodes University focused on nineteenth-century fairy tales and women's studies, has served as a juror for the Fuji Wildlife Awards and Getaway Gallery Awards, and co-authored several books on travel and photography.
Her work has been exhibited across Ireland and the UK at the Royal Hibernian Academy of Arts (Dublin), the Royal Birmingham Society Of Artists (Birmingham), Glasgow Gallery Of Photography (Glasgow) and Women In Arts Fair (London), and has been featured in publications including Hunger magazine and Women United Art Magazine. Her work, The Chemistry Of Me, forms part of the Levett Collection at FAMM museum (Femmes Artistes du Musée de Mougins) in France, where it sits alongside works from Lee Miller, Cindy Sherman, Dora Maar and Nan Goldin.
