I am a photographer from a Fine Art background with a career spanning 4 decades producing work for Advertising Agencies and Designers. Throughout that time I have been fortunate enough to balance any commissioned work with my own personal practice, which ranges from Landscape and Industrial to Still life. I am now retired from the commercial arena and can now concentrate on my personal work.
My portfolio can be divided into three different areas: Landscape, Industrial and Still Life. The main themes of my landscape work are quite simply the natural elements such as frost, ice, woodland, sand, water and rock structures and are my responses to what I find within the landscape. I endevour to keep each image as simple as possible to maintain the integrity of the subject matter. My intension is to convey my own personal fascination and reaction to what I discover in a place, which usually results in very specific intimate landscapes. The Sand images rarely have any indication of scale, and are intentionally abstract, similar in some ways to aerial views of deserts and river deltas. Seen in isolation they appear ambiguous, alluding to such things as muscle fibres or other organic growth. The Industrial work is part of an ongoing collection, which looks at the hidden world of the industrial work place, both operational and abandoned. These places are unfamiliar and fascinating, rarely seen by most people. The abandoned places are dark, dangerous spaces, often very unsettling but is ultimately alluring. Any Still Life work that I produce is specific and detailed, paring back any extraneous information to concentrate on what I find most interesting. These can be either ‘found still lifes’ seen in their natural environment or items that I have collected and brought back to the studio. Occasionally this type of work is shown as a series of several images, which can help to present a more complete study. I have also produced several long-term projects. Flooded Woodland for example, explored an area of 'wet' woodland located on the edge of a reservoir in the Peak District, showing the seasonal changes over a period of one year. This epic work of 14 huge panoramic images showed the visual transformation throughout the seasons and highlights just how different the same place can appear when viewed over such an extended period of time. This was a touring show in both public and private galleries. All the work is produced on High End equipment and printed by myself to exacting standards on archival cotton rag paper, as a Limited Edition or signed and numbered. The prints are available in different sizes on a Print Only basis. Artwork is posted in heavy duty card tubes for the customer to frame to their taste. However, I can supply a framed version of any artwork on request.
