Teresa Williams Northamptonshire, United Kingdom
Since completing my Photography MA (Falmouth) in autumn 2019, I have been establishing myself as a visual artist with photography at the core of my work. I primarily create intricate, digitally painted composites, as a method of contemporary nostalgic storytelling, I also make embroidered collages.
My work is constantly shifting and changing, much like the lie of the land on the East coast, which is a recurring theme in my recent work.
I use photographs to create collage (both analogue, digital, and in combination), and intricate hand embroideries on paper; using recycled and sustainable materials wherever possible.
My recent work draws attention to the environmental issue of erosion on the Suffolk coast.
After printing my coastal photographs on sustainable hemp or bamboo paper, I create Nereides on them. These are Greek muthological daughters of the Old Man of the Sea, and are said to protect those in, or on, the sea. In an ironic twist of fate my beautiful creatures are cloaked in geo textile beach debris, which I have sewn into the paper. Further texture is added to ther photograph with embroidery.
Since starting work on my Nereids series, I have been invited to join the prestigious Easterly Artists group, and have exhibited with them.
In the past year I have exhibited at the London Lighthouse Gallery, the First Light exhibition in Lowestoft, and at Lamport Hall in Northamptonshire. Previous exhibitions include Oxford, Glasgow and London.
I have work in several zine publications and has a Master’s Degree in photography.
