Darren Lehane Somerset, United Kingdom
  Back to profiles

Darren Lehane is a candid observational street photographer, drawn to humour, absurdity and WTF moments in public places. He is multiple award-winning and has been widely exhibited and published, both in the UK and internationally.

As an observational street photographer he is inspired by the likes of Garry Winogrand, Tony Ray-Jones, Joel Meyerowitz and Martin Parr. Working exclusively in colour he seeks out humour, absurdity and WTF moments in public places, such as urban streets, parks, the beach and even the countryside.

Colin Westerbeck, esteemed photography historian, curator and co-author of the seminal 'Bystander: The History of Street Photography" book, said of Darren: “I felt I was looking at the self-selected work of Magnum photographers…as Darren Lehane’s images demonstrate in a series of shots where all the craziness is going down in the same picture plane.” His work has also found favour with photographers Martin Parr and Alex Webb.

He was winning finalist of PDN Street 2016 and has won numerous other competitions. He has been exhibited in the Mall Galleries in central London, as well as far afield as the Harvey Milk Centre in San Francisco, USA.

His work is also licensed through Getty Images and has been published worldwide, including for use at the London 2012 Summer Olympics.
