My artistic practice has developed from a lifetime of working as a carpenter and furniture maker. I create unique, one-off sculptural assemblages using old tools, reclaimed timber, metal and other found objects.
I enjoy taking familiar workshop objects and removing them from their original purpose, giving them unexpected identities, relationships and roles. Hammers, spanners, nails and other everyday materials can become characters in small visual stories, often involving humour, conflict, reversal or a touch of surrealism.
My practical background influences how I approach each piece, combining traditional making skills with experimentation and problem-solving. I retain the marks, wear and imperfections accumulated through the objects’ previous lives, allowing their history and character to become part of the work.
Each sculpture is individually conceived and handmade. I am interested in the moment when an ordinary, overlooked object becomes something unexpected, inviting viewers to look again and imagine a different story.
