Laura Lee United States

Hi. My name is Laura Lee and my principal interest is wildlife and landscape photography in the Western United States and Canada. I reside in far north Idaho in Bonners Ferry, but have also lived in Montana, California, Utah, and Colorado. My work is primarily realistic, but I love finding beautiful patterns in Nature that are abstract and contemporary.

Although I am primarily self-taught, I have had some notable mentors including David Marr of Cole/Marr Photography, Boise Idaho. David is one of the few photographers living in North America who studied with Ansel Adams. He once told me not to be so "goal driven" that I missed the gift I was given that day as a photographer. Sometimes that gift is wildlife that strays into my path. Sometimes it's seeing beautiful patterns in clear mountain lakes.

My work is representative of the wild places, national parks, state lands and other property in the Western States. I have enjoyed travelling with my children and grandchildren to various locations in the West and teaching them more about this beautiful world we live in. We live in an interesting time. With having survived a worldwide pandemic, and some strict local and national regulations during that time, it was heart warming to see so many people turn back to and connect with wilderness areas, local parks and hiking trails. Nature is curative. In the words of John Muir, "Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home; that wildness is a necessity."

My work strives to connect the viewer with the beauty and simplicity of wild places in the Western United States. From sweeping landscapes to intricate patterns in the Macro World, my work invites us to venture into new paths and breathe deeply. It is the sound of the wind in the boughs of evergreens, the newness of the Earth after a rainstorm. It is both traditional/realistic, and modern/contemporary.

Enjoy! -Laura Lee
