Aesthetics: a collaborative project between Convenience Gallery, the Open Door Charity and NHS.

Aesthetics is a creative project we are working on with the Open Door Charity and NHS to create both a supportive and creative resource for people with Personality Disorders.

Within this project Convenience is commissioning the creation of 2 new artworks from artists with Personality Disorders.  Proposals can be made for any medium and the work created can explore any themes relevant to artists practice but work focusing around Personality disorders will be given preference.

Requirements of commission:

1.     The creation of a new an art piece (does not have to be specific to Personality Disorders)

This could include but is not limited to: painting, ceramics, sculpture, performance, design, graphics, audio/visual, film, installation, light, fashion, games/virtual,  textiles, illustration or photography.

2.     The creation of a video/ journal capturing the personal and creative process whilst undertaking the commissioned work.

The main outcomes of these commissions are:

1.     To create a greater understanding of what personality disorders are.

2.     To be an inspiring and truthful portrayal of the effects personality disorders have on a person living with a diagnosis.

We will achieve this by presenting a film alongside the artwork made that explores the artists process in making the work, with a focus on their personality disorder and the impact it has on them daily; both related to their creative and personal lives.

Commission: We are able to award 2 artists commissions of £400 inclusive of budget and fee. The commission and budget breakdown will be discussed with successful applicants.

More About Personality disorders:

Personality Disorders are often individual experiences, and are diagnosed within one of 3 cluster groups that represent different personal experience. One of the ODC’s lived experience group shared this definition of PD with us: “Personality is something that develops throughout our lives often changing and adapting. It’s often a stable pattern of behaviour, thought and emotion that’s unique to the individual. Often those experiencing personality difficulties have differences in their personality presentation. For example they may experience emotions intensely or struggle to identify what they’re feeling. This may alter behaviours and thoughts, leaving the individual confused or frustrated about the world around them.”
