A unique opportunity to inspire the public with the scale and urgency of the climate crisis and the need to pressure governments to take urgent action. The artwork will be displayed at an Extinction Rebellion central London protest site for two weeks in October, which will receive significant media attention. The theme of the site is 'Burned Earth'. Deadline, noon on 25th September.

Extinction Rebellion is an international movement that uses nonviolent civil disobedience in an attempt to halt mass extinction and minimize the risk of social collapse. On October 7 2019, for two weeks, Extinction Rebellion is calling for an International Rebellion. We are seeking artwork for one of the London sites of the Rebellion, which has the theme Burned Earth.

Burned Earth is a wake-up call. Artistic representations of waters running red, burning forests, extinct animals and telling an emotional story of the end of time. The work will need to have strong and compelling impact in a very large scale public space, and small scale work is unlikely to be suitable.

While work could be in any media, 3D works, and performance art, are likely to be most practical in this setting. Proposals for design and making of banners are very welcome.

Given the extremely tight deadline, work will be likely to be pre-existing, but if you can meet the deadline of delivering new work by October 4, please send proposals. We will let you know by Thursday 26 September if you have been successful. Artists contributing work will have the opportunity (if desired) to speak about their work at an event held as part of the Rebellion.

- We welcome work involving public participation

- The work will be displayed outdoors 24/7 and will need to withstand rain and winds. 3D works need to be stable, sturdy and suitable for placing on the ground.

- It will be a very busy public site and members of the public will be able to approach and touch the artwork so please consider carefully any risks that your artwork might pose to them.

- The site will be open to the public 24/7. Extinction Rebellion will look after the site 24/7. However, this is a Rebellion site and we cannot guarantee the safety of your work or its return at the end of the event.

- We can't guarantee the availability of power for sound, light etc. We hope to be able to show videos (to be confirmed).

- Proposals from groups of collaborators are very welcome.
