About The Upside Down Lens

The Upside Down Lens is the creative identity of Em Pickford, a disabled artist and photographer based in Brighton.

I make work one-handed, exploring themes of identity, adaptation, belonging, and the ways disabled people navigate spaces not designed for us.

I’m committed to community-centred practice, working with disabled and marginalised groups both in the UK and internationally.

This exhibition is my first time curating, and I am dedicated to doing so with openness, care, and accessibility at the forefront.

IMPORTANT NOTE ON PAYMENT

Payment will not be requested before the venue is fully confirmed.
This call-out is primarily for expressions of interest, and the aim is to be fully transparent throughout the process.

Exhibition Overview

“Left, Right, and Everything In Between” is a small-scale exhibition centering disabled artists whose work explores journeys, detours, adaptation, and the many ways we navigate a world not always built with us in mind.

The show highlights the creative routes disabled artists carve for ourselves- physically, conceptually, and emotionally.
