ASMbly (A(rt)S(cience)M(aker)bly) Lab  is our annual pop-up studio/laboratory/workshop in Leeds city centre, facilitating cross-disciplinary collaboration between artists, scientists and makers. ASMbly 2017 runs from Wednesday 26th July to Sunday 6th August.

The Lab is open to the public and this provides a range of crucial engagement opportunities with audiences while enabling collaborations to develop with other Lab participants. Previous ASMblys have led to the touring of SciArtworks across Europe to festivals such as Ars Electronica or to works becoming permanent installations at research facilities such as DESY Synchrotron in Hamburg. To increase our critical audience engagement, this year we are designing an exciting programme of talks, critiques, exhibitions, workshops and hands on visitor activities to complement our Lab activities.

Superposition is run on a voluntary basis and has achieved a lot in the past four years. In large part this is due to an ethos of skill/ knowledge sharing that is based arround fairness. The Superposition is an organisation open to all and as such does not discriminate along lines of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, disability or political affiliation.

We want to meet interesting people and volunteering with us could be a great way to get involved.  While the main benifit of being involved in The Superposition is social, involvement has had knock on effects for the careers of a number of key member / volunteers. Their involvement has resulted in winning public art commissions, being invited to conferences and international festivals and being awarded visiting fellowships and residencies at Universities in the UK. While we cannot promise that this will happen to all volunteers, it in some way indicates the benefits and doors that can open from being involved in a dynamic and fun group of people with a shared vision/ passion. We are looking for volunteers to join us for ASMbly and beyond. If you have skills in social media, fabrication, exhibition setup, writing, video or photographic documentation or if you are just nice person who is interested in Art/ Science and Life, then we want to hear from you.

ASMbly 2017 is proudly supported by Arts Council England Grants for the Arts and Leeds BID
