Awakenings at Wick is a self-directed self-catered artist residency programme based in Somerset. This residency opportunity is for one member of the Royal Society of Sculptors.
Awakenings at Wick, are driven by a single goal; to do thier part in making the world a more colourful and beautiful place.
They want to share our incredible house and its surroundings with those passionate about creating.
Whether you are an established artist, a crafter, musician, writer, photographer, sculptor or poet Awakenings at Wick offers the space to connect with the land to create your next project.
All applicants must understand that they need to work independently, and be happy doing so.
Awakenings at Wick is a self-directed, self-catered programme with a maximum of 5 artists per residency, 1 artist per room.
They have created a unique environment that brings artists and aspiring artists together in a respectful shared space.
All mediums are welcome, artists are asked to bring with you the tools you require to create.
Awakenings at Wick is set in a small hamlet near the town of Langport, Somerset, UK.
The residency period is two weeks - 15th-28th June 2026.
Complimentary accommodation will be provided, the successful artist will however need to be responsible for their own food and supplies.
A travel bursary of £150 is available. There are a variety of spaces to choose from in terms of studio space, one indoors and one outdoors. The successful artist can choose a space most suitable for them.

Penny has owned the house for over 20 years. Every inch of the property and gardens expresses Penny's love for colour, travel and connection to the earth. Penny wants to share the Wick joy that touches everyone who stays.
Almuth Tebbenhoff VPRSS
Almuth Tebbenhoff was born in Germany in 1949, came to England in 1966 as a student exchange and stayed. She studied ceramics at Sir John Cass School of Art 1972-5, made pots and surreal clay sculpture. In 1981 Almuth set up a studio in Wandsworth and expanded her practice to include metal fabrication.
For a while she worked very minimalistic then developed her own style. Since 1980 Almuth has exhibited, lectured, tutored, experimented, developed and learnt to carve marble which is very grown up. Over four decades she made many sculptures which are in collections worldwide.

ENTRY PROCESS
To complete this application, please provide the following:
" Five images of recent work
" A CV of no more than two pages long
" A statement telling us how a residency at Awakenings at Wick might impact your practice (200 words)
The closing deadline for applications is 5 pm, 7 April 2026.
Unfortunately, due to the number of applications we receive, feedback will not be given at this stage. Notification of all results will be sent by email, week commencing 20 April 2026.
RULES & GUIDELINES
By submitting an application, the entrant promises that all of the information comprised in the application is correct.
The entrant also promises to comply with these rules and any other requirements specified by the Society (whether on its website or otherwise), and the Society reserves its right to exclude any entry which, in its opinion, does not comply.
All applications must be made using this online form. No hard copy applications will be accepted. Applications must be received by the closing date specified.
Any submissions must be lawful, it must not be offensive, obscene, racist, discriminating or otherwise objectionable and it must not contain
any form of advertising.
Entrants grant the Royal Society of Sculptors and Awakenings at Wick the unrestricted right (without royalty) to reproduce images of any work in connection with the residency, be it online, printed or otherwise disseminated.
The Judge's decision is final. If the Royal Society of Sculptors is unable to contact any short-listed artist or winners via the email address supplied by the entrant, the shortlist position lapses and the Society reserves the right to select alternative winners.
ELIGIBILITY
Applications are welcomed from all Royal Society of Sculptors members and fellows provided they have not been awarded or participated in a Society residency in the 12 months prior to the applications opening. Please note that for your application to be accepted, your annual membership fee must be paid in full by the submission deadline or an existing quarterly direct debit be in place.
The successful candidate will be required to provide references.
