Hyperreality is the postmodern condition of being unable to distinguish reality from the simulation of it. The collapsing of reality and rise of technology has created fertile ground for creative discourse. So how do emerging contemporary artists explore their lived and experienced hyperrealities? All mediums are relevant and invited.
Now open for submissions -Living in Hyperreality
'Living in Hyperreality' is an exhibition that is part of a multidisciplinary citywide festival of contemporary arts in Bath, Somerset: Fringe Arts Bath festival, running 25 May to 10 June 2018.
The exhibition: Hyperreality is the semantically postmodern condition of being unable to distinguish reality from the simulation of it. French philosopher Jean Baudrillard coined the term in the 1980's ascribing it to the world he knew then, living in hyperreality now, is as natural as living in the real; the disassociating effects of the digital are felt more than any other generation that came before. The merging of learned and imagined mythologies collide with indistinct spaces, virtual human relations and a cacophony of fake-news and non-truths. The exhibition will connect with the diverse audience of Fringe Art Bath, while attempting to be an oversaturated rendition of the hyperreal.
So how do emerging contemporary artists explore their lived and experienced hyperrealities?
Accepting any medium in response to the theme. The exhibition will occupy three dimensions of the space and particularly invites photographic, screen-based and sculptural pieces. Encouraging artists from all backgrounds to apply.
