Artcore invites applications from two UK-based artists to participate in the Winter Residency Programme 2027 at Space Studio, Vadodara, India.

Connecting Threads 2027 offers artists the opportunity to join Space Studio’s wider winter residency cohort, working alongside artists from different parts of India.

Over four weeks, selected artists will have time and space to develop their practice, engage with a new artistic environment, and take part in a programme of studio visits, discussions, presentations, and peer exchange.

The residency is intended to support artistic development, professional networking, and cultural dialogue through direct participation in an active studio community.

About the Project

Every year, Artcore develops international residency opportunities that enable artists from the UK to work in India and explore new cultural contexts, build professional networks, and engage with artists, communities, and institutions beyond their immediate environment.

For 2027, Artcore is collaborating with Space Studio Baroda.

The Connecting Threads residency program aims to foster artistic exchange, cultural dialogue, and professional development opportunities for emerging and mid-career artists from the United Kingdom.

About Space Studio Baroda

Space Studio is an artist residency and studio based in Vadodara, India.

Through its residency programme, Space Studio offers artists time, space, and access to an active artistic community.

Selected artists will have the opportunity to engage in studio visits, discussions, presentations, and community-based interactions during their time in Vadodara.

The selected UK artists will join the wider Winter Residency Programme at Space Studio.

While the regular programme runs for a longer duration, the UK-based artists selected through Artcore will participate for approximately four weeks, beginning in January 2027.

Vadodara, also known as Baroda, is one of India’s significant centres for contemporary art, with a long-standing history of artistic practice, pedagogy, and cultural exchange.

The city has been home to generations of artists, educators, and collectives, and continues to offer a rich context for visual research, studio practice, and dialogue.

For visiting artists, Vadodara offers an opportunity to encounter a layered artistic environment shaped by local histories, everyday urban life, material practices, and active networks of artists and cultural practitioners.

The Residency Includes

• Four-week residency at Space Studio Baroda, Vadodara, India
• Individual accommodation for each selected artist
• Individual or shared studio space within the Space Studio Residency Programme
• Basic studio furniture and infrastructure
• Laundry facilities
• Three meals per day
• Access to Space Studio’s artistic community and professional network
• Opportunities for studio visits, discussions, presentations, and community engagement
• A public presentation, artist talk, or open studio at the conclusion of the residency
• Publicity and marketing support through Artcore and Space Studio

We Offer

• Return international travel support from the UK to India
• Accommodation for the duration of the residency
• Three meals per day
• Studio space and basic infrastructure
• Bursary support: £1000
• Support with visa and travel documentation where required
• Mentoring and professional support during the residency
• Promotion of selected artists through Artcore and Space Studio’s communication channels

Visa application costs, personal expenses, additional travel, production costs beyond the bursary, and any other expenses not listed above will be the artist's responsibility unless otherwise confirmed by Artcore.

Eligibility

This opportunity is open to:

• Artists based in the UK
• Emerging and mid-career artists
• Practitioners working across visual arts, craft, design, performance, socially engaged practice, research-led practice, or interdisciplinary fields
• Artists who are available to travel to India for the full four-week residency period in January–February 2027
• Artists with a valid passport and the ability to apply for an Indian visa

Artists must be willing to remain actively engaged throughout the residency and participate in studio visits, presentations, public events, and the concluding open studio or artist talk.

Selection Process

The open call will be administered by Artcore in the UK. The final selection of artists will be made by representatives of Artcore.

Selected artists will be expected to comply with residency guidelines, community expectations, and the agreed programme structure.
