We are looking to commission a street art/mural artist, based in Warwickshire and/or the West Midlands, with experience of working collaboratively with primary school age children. The commission will be based in Stratford upon Avon. The commission is £4,000 including materials.

You will be working closely with the Head Teacher and pupils between the ages of 7 and 11 to create a concept and complete an artwork that incorporates the landscape and history of Stratford upon Avon. The project should introduce the children to art, it’s materials, and history, through creative and playful workshops that give them an opportunity to make their mark.

The site is the entrance to the outer courtyard of the school, with a 10.78m x 3.35m wall that is also the side of the community centre.  The surface is currently all dark brick with just one small window breaking up the expanse.  We would like you to engage the children in thinking creatively about how to disrupt this expanse of brick, so that it becomes a welcoming and interesting first impression to the school and community centre.

We anticipate that the project will take place during the Easter term of 2022, but this is negotiable with the school.

This project is part of the wider S-o-A Community Art Project 2020-2022.  You will liaise directly with the Head Teacher on all aspects of the project, with support from the Art Project team.  You will be required to have a current DBS certificate and Public Liability Insurance.  We can support you with the costs of acquiring a DBS certificate if you do not already have one.

The opportunity is open to artists based in Warwickshire and the West Midlands. Preference will be given to under represented artists and/or artists based in Stratford upon Avon/South Warwickshire.

If you would like more information or photographs of the site please contact the curator.

All submissions will be assessed by a panel that includes pupils, parents and staff.
