Crafty Praxis, Huddersfield’s independent gift shop, is working with arts event manager, Nicola Twynham to bring new opportunities to local makers and the shoppers of Huddersfield by creating a unique and refreshing Makers Showcase event. We are carefully selecting makers to present their products in the stunning Byram Arcade to deliver a great range of skills and crafts.

The Showcase

We want this to be a special experience for our visitors and will be creating a day of activities to accompany the fair and create a real buzz in the shopping arcade.

The event will showcase 10 Makers as well as the independent business that already operates in the arcade. Each Maker will be provided with a 6x3 table and chair(s). We will select a range of makers so that each makers products stand out. We may also be able to facilate a stand or display space if you require it. This will be case-by-case after discussion.

The event is free entry. We will also be running a free family making activity and be encouraging informal activites such as a pop-up acoustic performance or flashmob choirs etc.

The event will take place on Saturday 15th September.

A Table for this event is £20.

Marketing and Promotion

Posters and Flyers will be on display around Huddersfield and the surrounding areas in the three weeks proceeding the event. The event will be promoted via the Creative Kirklees network as well as extensive use of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with paid adverts as well as reaching the thousands of followers that the Byram Arcade and Crafty Praxis have. On the day of the event we will have an A-board person moving around the town centre inviting people into the arcade. We will also have fun, creative signage at the entrance to the arcade encouraging people to come in.

We will be using the hashtag #MakersinHudd and would appreciate you also promoting this.

To encourage visitors to purchase we will be running a prize draw on the day. You will be given entry cards at the start of the day and each time you have a purchase please give the shopper an entry card. They can complete their details and post it in the prize draw box. At the end of the day Vaso, from Crafty Praxis will select a winner. Prize is TBC.

Logistics

The Byram Arcade is a beautiful 3 floor covered Victorian arcade full of independent shops and fabulous café, located on Westgate in Huddersfield Town Centre. It is a stones throw away from both the bus and train station and there are loading bays and short stay parking on Station Street, directly behind which is ideal for loading/unloading. There is long stay parking behind the train and at the bus station for around £4 all day on a Saturday. There is cheaper parking around but this is the closest. The fairs run from 10am-4pm but the arcade itself is open to the public from 8.30 so there is ample time to set up before the beginning of the fair.

Please note that power is not available to the tables.
