The CuratorSpace Artist Bursary programme aims to support artists with the cost of projects. Bursaries of up to £500 will be awarded per round.

To make our bursaries more inclusive for a range of practices, we have updated the bursaries so that artists can apply for the amount they need between £100 and £500.

We want to hear about your project and its ambitions. We understand that this award may only support an aspect of the project, such as your time, materials, equipment, or travel.

Eligibility

Bursaries are only available to artists with a CuratorSpace Artist or Artist Plus subscription.

If artists are applying as a partnership or collective, then all members should have an Artist or Artist Plus subscription. To subscribe, go to https://www.curatorspace.com/about/pricing and click the Subscribe button underneath the Artist or Artist Plus section.

Artists can apply from anywhere in the world. Applications must be provided in English.

Applications are accepted from a range of practices including drawing, painting, sculpture, illustration, printmaking, photography, film, video, applied art, live art, and social art practice. Please message to enquire if you are unsure whether you are eligible.

Funds can be used towards the production of new works, costs associated with research and development, or the purchase of materials or equipment in relation to your project.

Students are eligible to apply.

Unfortunately, we cannot currently support applications that are solely performing arts or creative writing focused. This includes music and theatre. Applications that incorporate these media in a contemporary art context will be considered.

We also cannot support anything that isn't specifically part of an art project. Therefore we cannot award funds for general equipment or materials purchases, or to provide workshops, where this is not part of a participatory project.

Judging Criteria

When assessing proposals, judges refer to 5 different criteria. These are: Originality of approach, Relevance to practice, Clear objectives, Impact on professional development, and Barriers to practice. The questions are specifically tailored so that artists can provide all the necassary information about their project.

Deadline

The deadline for applications is 30th September 2024.  A decision will be made by the end of October 2024 and all applicants will be informed of the outcome.

Award

Each award will be made in full on receipt of an invoice from the artist after being accepted.

Previous winners

Previous applicants can apply again, but previous winners are not eligible to apply for 12 months after their award, ie. artists selected in July can apply again from the following August.

Details of some of the previous winners can be found at https://www.curatorspace.com/about/bursary-winners

If you are awarded the bursary we will contact you within 6 months of receiving the funds with a brief questionnaire to find out how the bursary contributed to your project. This is a condition of the bursary which helps us to monitor our impact.

Please note: CuratorSpace has always been committed to redistributing our profits to support the artist community and will continue to do so.
