Taigh Chearsabhagh Museum and Arts Centre in North Uist, Scotland, are hiring a part-time Director starting this summer. The role involves shaping the organisation's strategy, artistic direction, and financial development. Key responsibilities include implementing the business plan, leading a new building project, engaging with the community, and leading the existing team. Our ideal candidate is an experienced senior manager in the cultural sector with leadership, financial, and operational experience.

Director

Permanent | 0.6 FTE | £45,000 pro rata

In early 2025, Taigh Chearsabhagh Trust was thrilled to receive confirmation of multi-year funding (MYF) from Creative Scotland, a vital endorsement of the role we play in the cultural landscape in the islands, the local community, and beyond.

This welcome development enables us to reinstate the leadership position of Director at Taigh Chearsabhagh Museum and Arts Centre. Initially, this will be a part-time post beginning in summer 2025, with an option to transition to full-time in March 2026.

Working closely with our Board of Trustees, you will be responsible for shaping the organisation’s development, ensuring Taigh Chearsabhagh remains responsive to the evolving artistic and cultural context, as well as underpinning its future success as a nationally and internationally-recognised centre for innovative place-based creativity.

Our ideal candidate would be an experienced senior manager in the cultural sector with an excellent leadership track record and extensive experience in strategic, financial and operational management.

You will develop partnerships and relationships, secure additional funding and resources, advocate for Uist’s cultural significance, oversee Taigh Chearsabhagh’s year-round programme, including outreach and educational activities, and adapt and develop engagement models to meet the needs of our communities, artists, and visitors.

The key priorities over the first year will be to implement Taigh Chearsabhagh Trust’s Business Plan, which is rooted in our multi-year funding commitments and outlines the strategic and artistic development of the organisation; lead on an exciting opportunity to develop a new building, a Creative Hub, expanding our current facilities provision for Uist; and to embed the new leadership role within the current staffing structure of the organisation.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to immerse themselves in the vibrant, active culture sector in Uist, bringing energy and enthusiasm to our vision for the future.

We look forward to welcoming a dynamic new mind to Taigh Chearsabhagh at this time of promise and positivity.
