Pulled and pushed by life's weather, we are looking at pulling together a zine called 'Dis Cuts'. This is to include the current responses to the welfare cuts and assisted dying. There have been many protests, social media posts, letters to MP's and others, as we are living in it. This is an opportunity to hold some of that together and be an opportunity to speak up.

This is a low-resource me, maybe an us, opportunity.

I know some of us need something with us or of us to speak up or through, whilst it's a lot to try to juggle with a chaotic and sometimes difficult world to find ourselves or our feet within.

I've seen and created images, poems as ways to process and engage in two key changes this government is putting through, assisted dying and welfare cuts.

These proposals will significantly focus on disabled people with research from Amnesty, Citizens Advice and many more highlighting the impacts or concerns.

And they are pushing in fast, we could use and pull together images, photographs of protests, poems,  quotes, letters to MPs, lyrics, and illustrations that could be held in an A5 booklet.

You will be

  • Credited as you have written in the submission
  • Own your copyright of submission, it will not belong to us but is gifted to us for this project
  • Provided with a PDF
  • Tagged into some social media or given tags to use, so we link our works together in a targeted way, particularly before/on the next reading of the welfare cuts on 3rd July

At present, we are looking to gain donations/funds to get it printed and shared and asking if the Welcome Trust will add it to their disability zine collection. (They currently have a related exhibition on).

We will request if Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC) wish to hold the digital version online or highlight on their social media platforms of 10k plus, as any donations or requests for funds beyond print and postage will go to that campaign as directly as possible.

We will also ask campaign groups and Disability Arts Online if it is something they can highlight and promote for use and our contemporary history.
