This is an open call for artists of all disciplines on the subject of Adam & Eve. As this subject is broad and complex at its inception, I am expecting greatly varied responses.

Originally the idea came after reading a review from John Grey in the New Statesmen. His review was of a book simply titled ‘Adam & Eve’ that deals with how Adam & Eve came to symbolise the origins of humanity, and the fallacy that this entails. Here is a segment of that review:

What is most striking about the story is its capacity to express contradictory attitudes to the experience of being human. This is not because those who have told and retold it have been confused. The story expresses universal conflicts within human beings, rendered into a vernacular language of monotheism. The power of this inexhaustible myth comes from it not having any univocal meaning.

Because of the ambiguous tone this paragraph takes I thought it best as an example because I am trying to keep this as apolitical as possible.

The exhibition will take place at Contrast Studios in Crosshill. The studio is split between 3 rooms that could all be used. One room is 24m2 and comes equipped with a projector and screen. The screen can be green, white, black or red.

The second room is also 24m2 but contains desks so would be ideal for hanging or sculptural works. There is a garden that could be utilised but that would have to be very weather dependent because Glasgow is not famous for its sun.

There is also an upstairs area that has some potential for smaller pieces but is mainly taken up by a photography studio.

Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to hearing from you.
