Faces & Spaces
Deadline: 16/09/2026City: Cockermouth | Region: Cumbria | Country: United Kingdom | Wendy Kirwood
Dot Gallery are looking for artworks that respond to the theme of ‘Faces and Spaces’; how does your work as an artist describe faces and/or spaces?
Dot Gallery is a newly opened gallery situated in the heart of the historic town of Cockermouth in beautiful Cumbria.
We are looking for artists to submit work that reflects the theme of Faces and/or Spaces; this could be in a descriptive or abstract way; it is entirely up to you. Consider what ‘faces and spaces’ may mean to you and how your work could visually communicate these.
However you'd like to interpret this theme, we would love to see your work!
We are looking for work that is 2D in any medium, and we are also accepting a limited number of 3D works (sorry; no audio or video works).
Artists from across the UK are very welcome to submit their work (this opportunity is only for UK-based artists).
Wall-mounted work can be of any size or shape; however, please bear in mind the size and cost of return postage should you be sending your work to us. 3D work should comfortably fit on a 45 x 45 cm plinth.
Work can be framed or unframed. Unframed work should be suitable to be hung.
Artists are invited to submit up to 3 pieces of work for the exhibition.
Successful artists will be required to pay £30 for each work selected and any fees associated with sending/delivering work to the gallery.
Artwork will be offered for sale throughout the exhibition, and we will charge a commission of 10% of the price.
Please complete a separate form for each submission.
The submission deadline is Wednesday 16th September 2026.
Work sent by post should reach us by Wednesday 30th September 2026.
Artists are also welcome to deliver work in person to the gallery during gallery opening hours (10:00 to 17:00) between 16th and 30th September 2026.
The exhibition will run from Saturday 3rd October to Wednesday 4th November 2026.
Work can be collected from the gallery between Wednesday 4th November to Wednesday 18th November during gallery opening hours.
If you would like your work returning to you by post please be aware that we charge a fee which includes a £4 handling fee and the cost of Royal Mail Tracked 48 hours (no signature required) postage.
Larger parcels can be returned through Parcelforce and will be sent Express 48. Couriers cannot collect your work from the gallery, and we do not print postage labels.
There will be an opening event at the venue in Cockermouth on the evening of Friday 2nd October from 6-8 pm.
The gallery is partially accessible with access to the exhibition via a few steps and has accessible facilities at the premises.
All work must be complete at the time of submission.
Any work which varies from the original piece or size submitted may be rejected.
We will not accept a canvas print as a substitute for an original artwork.
If you wish to submit any form of print, it will be your responsibility to produce this print and prepare it for the exhibition before delivering it to us.
Please contact us should you have any further questions.

The gallery also aims to provide local artists with a space to showcase their work.
Cockermouth is a historic market town and was the childhood home of William Wordsworth.
As a result, the town enjoys a steady stream of tourists and locals alike who can enjoy an array of cultural experiences.
