Selected from open submission, the 13th Flourish Award for Excellence in Printmaking will bring together a diverse range of printmaking by selected artists from across the UK, presented in venues in the north of England in 2024 – our 40th anniversary year - by West Yorkshire Print Workshop.

The Flourish Award celebrates excellence in printmaking through a curated exhibition of around 10-15 artists shortlisted from open submission. We are looking for creativity, skill, originality and innovation in traditional handmade print: from relief print and intaglio to screen print, lithography and more.

The winner of the Award goes on to present their own solo print exhibition in Huddersfield. They will also benefit from a 2-week period of access to the facilities at WYPW.  In addition, there are runners-up prizes, including our student/recent graduate award.

The competition is open to established, emerging, and student artist/printmakers, with shortlisting and prizes awarded by an independent panel of judges. Artists can submit up to 3 individual pieces for consideration and have the chance to be part of an increasingly recognised Award and national exhibition, which provides a significant development opportunity for the winner as well as exposure.

Who is eligible for this opportunity?
Any Artists/Printmakers currently based in the UK producing hand-made prints made using one or more 'traditional' techniques such as etching, screen print, lino cut, etc. Digital works (including giclée prints) are not accepted unless used in combination with traditional hand-made methods. Works can be on paper or any other support, including 3D works.

For the Recent Graduate / Student Award - Any student currently studying in the UK or graduated since 2022 based in the UK.
What are the selection criteria?
We are looking for hand-made prints made using one or more 'traditional' techniques such as etching, screen print, lino cut, etc. Digital works (including giclée prints) are not accepted unless used in combination with traditional hand-made methods. Works can be on paper or any other support, including 3D works.

All works submitted for the Flourish Award will be viewed by a selection panel. Each year there is a different panel made from printmakers, curators, and arts professionals. The first round of judging takes places online. Works will be judged on creativity, originality, use of materials, technical ability, and overall impact. It is the selection panel's role to choose a shortlist and the eventual winner of the Flourish Award. The panel's decision is final.
When is the deadline?
The deadline for submissions is Sunday 28th January 2024.
How many works can I submit?
Up to 3 individual pieces per artist.

For works with multiple parts each part will be counted as an individual piece e.g., a triptych would be considered 3 individual pieces.

Each Artist/Printmaker can only submit once for Flourish 2024.
When is the delivery date?
Shortlisted artists will need to deliver their work between 15th - 19th April 2024.

Delivery of artwork and collection (at the end of the tour) is the responsibility of artists.

We make every attempt to look after each artist’s work whilst in our possession, and it is insured while with us.
Does artwork need to be framed?
Unframed work will be accepted; however, it is better that work is framed as this protects works on paper.

All framed works must be supplied with hanging fixings. Ideally with Ryman Hangers or SpringLOCK but mirror plated, D Ring and wire are also acceptable.

Unframed works will be displayed using a magnet system. Any alternative display requirements must be supplied by the artist after shortlisting.
Are the artworks for sale in the exhibition?
Shortlisted art works can be offered for sale during the exhibition. Commission on sales is 30%. Please indicate the retail (selling) price of your work, or ‘NFS’ if not for sale.
When do I hear if I have been shortlisted?
On or soon after 5th February 2024. We will publish a list of shortlisted artists on the WYPW website after selection.
Does my submission need to be my own work?
Each artist by entering a work confirms that they hold all intellectual property rights in the work.
Will images of my work be used by West Yorkshire Print Workshop?
By submitting the Entry Form shortlisted artists agree to allow images of their work to be reproduced in press and other media and used for marketing of the Flourish 2024 exhibition, WYPW’s Programme, and future Flourish Open Calls. All works shall be credited to the artist.
How long will you need my work for if selected?
For the duration of the exhibition and tour from delivery in April 2024 until December 2024.
When do I need to collect my work?
